Tibet started minting its own coins in 1763 and only a very small amount of coins were minted then. A second mint was opened in Lhasa in 1782. coins continued to be minted till 1953 as Tibet came under the peoples republic of China in 1950. Tibetan coins are very rare, and especially the silver coins have very high value; even in worn out condition if some details are visible.
